Michael's small paintings are predominantly evocations of time and place in which many nuances and memories are held. Some are painted directly from observation, becoming a personal travelogue, a diaristic account of places visited, either further afield or closer to home.
Other images are preparatory, servicing more extended works, often resolving compositional issues. They are above all forays into everyday life celebrating the act of looking and responding.
