George Blake was jailed for 42 years in 1961 but 5 years later he escaped from Wormwood Scrubs prison and made it to Moscow.

It was assumed to be a cunning KGB plot but in fact it was the work of three men he met in jail. One lived near Burgh House and later revealed he’d hidden Blake in his council flat. The latest story in our Hampstead Spies series is told by Stewart Purvis.
